ASK DR.CLAIRE
What age do puppies need vaccinations?
The age that puppies should be vaccinated varies with the vaccine manufacturer’s guidelines. So the protocol will vary depending on the brand of vaccination that your veterinarian stocks.
A common vaccination protocol for puppies is:
- 6-8 weeks of age: first vaccination (C3 – parvovirus, distemper, hepatitis)
- 12 weeks old: second vaccine (C5 – parvovirus, distemper, hepatitis, bordetella, parainfluenza)
- 16 weeks old: third vaccinarion (C5 – parvovirus, distemper, hepatitis, bordetella, parainfluenza)
Then a booster vaccination 12 months later, and either annually or 3 times a year after that.
