Is it common for ginger cats to be short sighted?

While vision is widely variable in animals, it is not common for ginger cats to be short or near sighted.

Changes in vision can be caused by diseases of the retina, changes in the lens, inflammation inside the eye, changes in pressure inside the eye as well as central nervous system disease. Elevated blood pressure can also cause damage to the optic nerve, resulting in sudden vision loss.

If you have specific concerns regarding your cat’ s vision consider an appointment with a veterinary ophthalmologist (eye specialist) for a thorough examination. You will need to obtain a referral from your regular veterinarian.

If you’d like to chat in person, you can get a live video call or start a text chat to discuss in more detail, as soon as possible.
