ASK DR CLAIRE

We are about to purchase a Golden Retriever puppy, is jasmine poisonous to dogs?

How exciting for you! Love a Golden.

There are many species of Jasmine, most are not toxic, but some are.

The white fragrant jasmine (jasmine officinale) and the Star Jasmine are common in Australia, and are not considered toxic.

However, eating grass or any plant material for that matter can lead to irritation to their mouth or mild vomiting.

If your Golden is especially cheeky with what they eat, (like most of them!), I would suggest you are very careful with all plants in the yard (and house). Know the potential dangers for your pup and guard against them. This means dangerous products and medications locked away & out of reach, lids on bins and locks on pantry!
