Why Are Cats Scared Of Cucumbers?

It’s not lost on us that the internet is full of videos of people sneaking cucumbers behind their cats whilst they are eating or sleeping to see how high they can jump and how frightened they can become.

So why are they so scared? Well, of course we can’t know why so many react with fear and jump in response. It’s speculated that the cucumber looks like a snake, and I guess it would make sense that cats are wired to fear snakes, but who knows. The element of surprise is also likely a factor in their response, as the cucumber is placed close to them whilst they are distracted.

Regardless of why some cats are scared, I find the worst part to be that the cats are being tormented at a time that they are at their most relaxed and vulnerable and in their supposedly safe place. It is possible that some of these cats could have a personality change triggered as a result of the scare and change from a happy kitty to an anxious one.

So why would you risk it? Let’s focus on calm, happy fur kid and forget the stress in the name of fun.
