Is your pet drinking more water?

The first sign that your pet may be drinking more is that you notice you’re filling the water bowl more often than usual. There could be frequent trips to the toilet, or a pet that used to hold their bladder all night no longer can.
The amount of water that your fur kid drinks is important to track. It gives us very valuable information about their health.
Top five causes of increased drinking
1. normal response to a hot day, strenuous activity, and for puppies and lactating animals
2. kidney disease
3. diabetes
4. liver disease
5. cushings disease.
Increased drinking can indicate a serious health concern. If you notice your pet drinking more it is important that you speak to your vet as soon as possible. If your pet is truly drinking more (we determine this is based on their weight and amount consumed over a 24 hour period), or is unwell then investigation is needed as soon as possible. They may recommend a blood and urine test as a great way to assess your pet’s base health.
Remember water is essential for life, so never deprive your pet of water, but it is a good way to monitor your pets overall health.
