The first sign that your pet may be drinking more may just be you notice yourself to be filling the water bowl more often than usual, there are more trips to the toilet, or a pet that’s use to hold their bladder all night no longer can.
The amount of water that your fur kid drinks is important to track as it gives us very valuable information about their health.
Top five causes of increased drinking
1. Normal response to a hot day, strenuous activity, and for puppies and lactating animals.
2. Kidney Disease
3. Diabetes
4. Liver Disease
5. Cushings disease
As increased drinking can indicate a serious health concern, if you notice your pet to be drinking more speak to your Vet as soon as possible. If your pet is truly drinking more (we determine this is based on their weight and amount drunk over a 24 hour period), or is unwell then investigation is needed as soon as possible. They may recommend a blood and urine test as a great way to assess your pet’s base health.
Remember water is essential for life, so never deprive your pet of water.
