A miniature Aussie Bulldog who was excited when we came home from work but today his penis tip wont go away. We tried icing his area hoping 2 help shrink but still wont go, is there a simple & easy way 2 help him at home please?

It’s really quite common for penis tips to get caught out of the sheath. Often they retract themselves but not always – and the longer they’re out of place, the harder it can be for them to go back into the protection of their prepuce. When the penis cant retract back into the prepuce we call it paraphimosis.

The prognosis is good if it’s successfully treated in a timely manner.

If it persists for more than 24 hours it can lead to significant tissue damage.

So if this is still not retracted – getting a hands-on examination from your local vet ASAP would be a great place to start.

If it’s all ok, just note for the future, I definitely don’t recommend icing the area – this could actually cause more damage- cleansing the area with luke warm or room temp saline and then using a lubricant like KY-Jelly to help retract the penis into the prepuce works well, failing this, he really needs to see your  local Veterinarian.
