Ask Dr Claire

I’m worried our cat has a concussion, what are the signs to look for?

Concussion is basically a traumatic brain injury. Signs differ per case and can include:

  • Seizures
  • Altered mental status i.e. depressed
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Bleeding from ear, nose or inside eye
  • Heavy or fast breathing

Brain injury should always be considered an emergency and your are best to take your cat to your local vet for a hands on assessment as soon as possible so that treatment can be started immediately.

Handle your cat carefully and quietly to minimise stress with transport etc.

If you’d like to chat in person, you can get a vet on a live video call or start a chat to discuss in more detail now.
