Ask Dr Claire

I’ve had my rabbit 1 week and suddenly tonight she just lays there she tries to move but can’t

A rabbit who isn’t moving is quite possibly an emergency case and needs urgent care. She needs to go to the nearest open veterinary hospital or clinic for a hands on exam as soon as possible to start to work out the cause of her symptoms.

Not moving is really just a symptom and can be the result of many underlying causes. Some of the underlying causes might be:

  • Infectious disease (bacteria, viruses, parasites)
  • Spinal injury from a fall or awkward jump
  • Gut impaction, and many more.
