My cat has gingivitis. He took medication for the first time today (Prednisolone) He is listless and sleepy. Should I be worried?
Prednisolone is a corticosteroid medication that is useful in some cases of gingivitis in cats where there may be an overactive immune response or severe inflammation. It certainly does have side effects, which does include making them more listless and sleepy. Some cats are more sensitive to this than others.
It’s really important to monitor your cat closely and as you’ve just started a new medication you need to check in regularly with your prescribing veterinarian.
A dosage change may be considered if you’re cat isn’t reacting well.
