My cat has her ears flattened back and meows when I touch a spot on her back, but is still purring when patted and cuddled? Is this normal?

A cat who has their ears back and is vocalising generally means that they are not pleased. Given that touching a spot on their back triggers this response, it suggests that the spot on her back may be painful.

A sore spot on the back could be due to infection or inflammation, such as a developing abscess from a cat fight, or could be corresponding to soft tissue injury or joint pain.

If this behaviour persists or certainly if it gets worse, if she is off her food or is lethargic, a hands-on examination from your local vet would be a great place to start, and as soon as possible.
