Ask Dr Claire

My cat is 2 years old and all up to date with shots and desex microchip, I think he is eating too much, always asking for more food been going on for about 2 weeks. He’s also catching his own snacks outside.

It would be great to get a visual on your cat, to assess his bodyweight and his coat.

Some cats do regulate what they eat and can have food out all the time, others eat way more than they should and will gain weight if they are allowed to eat all the food that they ask for!!

Then there are the ones who eat a lot of food, and just can’t gain any weight.

There are also some medical conditions which cause an increase in appetite, such as worms, diabetes, thyroid conditions, intestinal conditions and more.

I need more information to give you valuable help here, if you’d like to chat in person, you can get a vet on a live video call or start a chat to discuss in more detail now.
