There’s a weird bump on my dogs head, it’s a bit squishy and when i press on it, it hurts her
As a rule of thumb, lumps are either:
- Non-cancerous and just inflammatory.
- Cancerous, being either:
(a) Benign (tend to be slow growing and not spread readily), or
(b) Malignant (fast growing and can spread to other areas).
When it comes to lumps, looks can be very deceiving.
So if you’re worried, and especially as it’s worrying your lovely dog, a hands on examination from your vet is a great place to start, the vet can easily take a sample of the lump, which is the only true way to tell what it is.
Sometimes the sample will be sent to a veterinary pathologist to interpret the cells. Then recommendations can be made as to whether a biopsy, removal or no intervention is needed.
