I have a 12 week old swiss shepherd with a greenish discharge from her vagina. What can it be?
A greenish discharge in puppies from 6 weeks of age could be due to a condition called Puppy vaginitis.
This usually doesn’t cause a problem (more of an annoyance) and resolves after they are speyed, or after they reach puberty.
Treatment of puppy vaginitis is mainly time and patience. You need to bathe their vulva daily – you can use a non-scented baby wipe.
Other causes of discharge (a bladder infection or an anatomical abnormality) need medical treatment from your local vet, so the important thing is to differentiate between puppy vaginitis and a more serious problem.
