What happens if my dog gets bitten by a mosquito or stung by a bee?
For dogs, like with humans, a reaction to a bee sting varies wildly on the individual affected, and their sensitivity to the sting. In some cases there might be some local pain at the site of the sting, some dogs don’t notice it much at all.
It also depends where the sting occurred. If a dog is chasing a bee and is bitten in the mouth, swelling around the lips or the base of the tongue can result in obstruction of breathing. These more severe allergic reactions with swelling, or breathing difficulties , need to be seen by your local vet for lifesaving treatment as soon as possible.
Infected mosquitoes can transmit disease. For example, heart worm infection.
