Thoughts on doggy diapers for incontinent senior dogs?
Doggy diapers can help those pet parents of senior dogs with urinary incontinence deal with the mess (and subsequent stress) associated with the incontinence.
You can buy ones made for dogs, or depending on the dogs shape you can also try human ones or custom make your own.
My main concern with diapers is that they are being used as a band-aid for a problem rather than getting to and treating the cause of the incontinence if possible.
When using, it’s also important to ensure that they are changed regularly. Left wet they can be a source of infection. You also need to make sure your dog doesn’t try to eat them as this could be a risk for intestinal obstruction.
