Ask Dr Claire

Is it normal for cats to eat less in hot weather? It’s 40 degrees celcius at home.

It is common in the very hot weather, that cats eat less, and are also resting more in a bid to expend less energy. They are trying to avoid overheating.

However, a reduced appetite could also indicate that your cat isn’t well. If your cat has lost weight, is vomiting, has had a change in their stools or drinking habits it warrants a hands-on checkup from your local veterinarian.

If you’d like to chat in person, you can book a live video call or start a chat to discuss in more detail, as soon as possible.
